You can count on dirt, snow, mud, soot, and sand in your rugs. And then there are the things you never planned for like floods, leaks, and worse. William Dessert, owner/operator of All American Carpet cleaning, has seen it all and more. For floods, Dessert brings in water extraction gear that handles 2,000 gallons of water. "When the area is treated promptly, you have the best chance for restoring carpet," he said. Heavy-duty extraction is followed by mold treatment, deodorizing, and a second cleaning as needed. Soaps and chemicals are biodegradable. Commercial and residential customers order up steam cleaning, stain removal, and spot treatments. "That not only keeps colors bright but also takes care of high-traffic areas by the front door or on the stairs. Dirt really gets ground in. You have to get it out especially when carpeting is light-colored," he said. They also hand clean leather sofas and steam dry clean wool rugs. Dessert recommends mopping up spills promptly. "Press a clean cloth into the spill without rubbing. Then use warm water and continue blotting. You can make up a solution of dishwashing soap and water, just ¼ teaspoon to a cup of water, and be sure to rinse out the soap. Use paper toweling to absorb the water and once it's dry, vacuum to restore the carpet's texture," he said. Small companies, where the owner is the operator, develop dedicated followings because you know the boss is on the job. As Dessert says, "I am the company, I do most of the work myself, and I'm accountable." Dessert says most of the time he can give you a quote on the phone for routine cleaning services. He calls ahead to confirm your appointment and he says, he will be on time. © 2003 for The City Shopper 40 St. Paul St | Brookline MA 02446 | 617. 388. 0062 |
