Brighton Brunch Memoirs

Let's Eat by Kitty Kaufman

Tavern in the Square has Sunday brunch. There were three of us plus le bébé, who was taken with the televisions, each one tuned to a different station. Both the menu and the website say this is an "Award Winning All-You-Can-Eat Sunday Brunch Buffet" but they don't say who gave them the award.

You get omelet tickets. We asked if you could order off the menu and the answer was no. I asked another server and the host if there was anything but eggs. They didn't know. It turns out there is a 50-foot buffet most of which is covered in eggs. Yes, but there are lots of other things so you can eat just fine.

Le bébé did not want teeny pieces of pancake but she went for bagel and watermelon. We did the buffets: salad, lunch, omelet, more eggs and occasional bacon. Them's who can had Eggs Benedict, scrambles, pancakes and French toast. Them's who couldn't just ate "apple-wood smoked bacon." Don't try this at home.

We recommend you walk over so you can walk off the calories when you leave. You may have to go to Iowa. I would like to tell you how much it cost but I was a guest. The price is not on the menu or the website. I sent them email. No answer.
